Ashburton Baptist church currently uses approximately 36,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year. This is down by about 5% from 2013 when some energy efficiency projects were undertaken. In 2014, solar panels were installed on the roof of our buildings and we now generate half of our electricity consumption from the sun. Approximately half of this solar generated electricity is consumed directly, and the other half is sold back to the grid, reducing the emission of greenhouse gases in power stations. Over the last three years, the church has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 52%, to 21.4 t_CO2e per year.
