Rev Grant Stewart (Senior Pastor)

pastoral team gary heardRev Grant Stewart joined the pastoral as Senior Pastor in April 2020. Grant is married to Cathy and together they have been engaged in pastoral ministry with the Baptist Church for over thirty-five years, serving Churches both in New Zealand (Mt Roskill and Remuera)and Australia (Mitcham and East Doncaster). Grant trained initially as a Secondary School teacher before spending three years completing an M.Div. through Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and an M.Min. through the Melbourne College of Divinity. Father to three adult children and four grandchildren he is an avid sailor and sea-kayaker. Growing up in NZ he spent his early years playing rugby union and squash, then became a keen marathon runner and triathlete before morphing into a Masters Athlete. Grant combined his passion for both Sport and Pastoral work by becoming the inaugural Sports Chaplain ('Rev') with the Melbourne Storm Rugby League team, serving for the past twenty seasons, from early 2000 until the present. Grant has also been involved in advocacy and mediation work, is a qualified Spiritual Director and is trained in Church Health Coaching and Consultancy, spending four years serving as a Regional Minister for the Baptist Union of Churches in Victoria, Australia.

Rev Tri Nguyen (Associate Pastor - Youth and Young Adults)

pastoral team Tri NguyenTri joined the Ashburton Baptist Church pastoral team in June 2017.

Tri came to Australia in 1982, as a refugee fleeing Vietnam after the war. Tri came to faith through the ministry of Moonee Ponds Baptist Church. Their welcome and love for Tri inspired him to dedicate his life to serving the body of Christ and the wider community. Since then, Tri has been walking alongside marginalised children, youth and young adults in Melbourne and in Vietnam.

Rev Dr Tony Cupit (Associate Pastor - Pastoral Care)

pastoral team tony 2Tony commenced a part-time ministry of pastoral care at Ashburton in July 2019. After ordination and a time of pastoral ministry in Sydney, Tony served as a missionary/Bible translator in Papua New Guinea with Global Interaction. He became GIA's Director of Mission in 1970 and in 1977 he was appointed Director of Mission and Ministries for the Baptist Union of Victoria. In 1990 Tony became Deputy General Secretary: Director of Evangelism and Education and Director of Study and Research for the Baptist World Alliance, based in Washington DC. He served the BWA for twenty years and subsequently served as Pastor to the McLean Baptist Church in Virginia USA. He brings to Ashburton a lifetime of pastoral and mission leadership throughout the Baptist world.

Rev Ann Lock (WellSpring Director)

pastoral team annThe Rev. Ann Lock joined us in August 2012 as the WellSpring Director.

Ann and her husband Garry moved to Victoria after 3 years in Canberra. Ann has pastored at Brunswick Baptist Church, worked with Baptist Inner City Ministries in Sydney, (now Hope St) and has a background in OH&S Nursing.
