The Walking Group provides an opportunity to explore the beauty of the world around us while walking and chatting with others from the community. We aim to have an outing 2–3 times per year on a Saturday and we usually have between 10 and 25 people in the group. The walks are planned to be at a level that is comfortable for most people. They are usually 9–12km in length and steep climbs are avoided. We usually have lunch on the track and stop for a coffee somewhere on the way home. Contact the church office if you'd like to know more about the walking group and click on any of the images below to see the photos of our previous expeditions.
The next walk will be on Saturday 7th October 2023. We'll be exploring the beautiful ocean coastline between Pearce's beach and the Sorrento back beach. This 9 km walk meanders through the sand dunes and coastal vegetation offering stunning views of the ocean, rock pools and cliffs. Bring your lunch, drinking water and comfortable shoes for sandy walking. The hills are gentle (the highest point is only 35m above sea level) but the sand will slow our progress a little. Of course, we'll find somewhere good for coffee in Sorrento in the early afternoon before the 90 minute drive back to Ashburton.
We'll depart from the Marquis St carpark at 8:30am (please arrive a few minutes early so we can organise transport) and will return by about 4pm.
